It's quite a name, isn't it?
The verb "to lie" is intransitive (even if you mean "to tell a falsehood" rather than "to move into a reclining position"). It does not take an object. You cannot act on something by "lying" it. The verb "to lay" is transitive. It takes an object. You do not "lay" down unless you are laying the fluffy undercoating of feathers from birds commonly used to stuff items of luxury bedding. And even then, you probably need to lay down down on something.
You conjugate "to lie:"
I lie down, I am lying down, I lay down last week, I have lain down in the past.
You conjugate "to lay:"
I lay eggs, I am laying eggs, I laid an egg last week, I have laid eggs in the past.
If you want to "lay down" you are doing it wrong. If you are "laying on the floor crying" I am going to assume that you're crying because you haven't laid enough eggs and now the farmer is going to kill you because your yields have dropped. If you are "laying in bed" you should warn your partner not to break the eggs.
So, in summary, I chose the name because it sounded better than Intransitive Sit.

Keep it somewhat civil. And don't make me stop this car.
